Adult Learning Principles and Our Demonstrated Commitment

The concepts of what are commonly referred to as 'adult learning principles' joined the vocabulary of the training world in the late sixties.  It is basically a framework that describes how to best to train adult learners as opposed to other groups of learners - such as children.

Connecting technology concepts to the adult learner audience has been the singular focus of our educational philosophy and curriculum design effort since we started our business in 1990.  Over the years, we have come to know of and employ some of what could formally be called 'principles' of adult learning by research and our own education - others we acquired through the process of being active educators and evaluating what worked in the classroom and what didn't.  Almost every technique that we employ in our quest to connect technology to the end-user are, on some level, based on the principles of adult learning.

But the field of study known as 'adult learning' has evolved a lot over the years and there have been several discoveries that we are actively working to weave into our curriculum design, training delivery and the various 'passive' learning tools that we produce (CD-ROMs, Web-based courses, etc.)

Starting in January, we will be involved a series of workshops designed for our trainers that makes sure that all of us here at CCT are aware of and knowledgeable on the latest thinking in the field of adult learning.  But that really isn't anything revolutionary on our part - many of our competitors are undertaking similar initiatives in an effort to make sure the training style and approach that they offer their clients is 'current' and represents the best understanding of the unique ways that adults learn.

But we have decided to go one step further than others in our industry and make sure that adult learning principles are not just consistently delivered in the classroom, but consistently reinforced in the variety of training materials and programs we produce as well.  We don't think it's good enough that the best thinking on adult learning is just ensured while students are directly involved with us in the learning process - students need to have the best of what adult learning principles have to offer incorporated into the materials that they use and keep as a byproduct of instructor-led training as well as have them incorporated into the many passive learning tools that we offer as part of an overall educational campaign.  That's why we are hiring a respected authority in the field of adult learning to review all of our training materials to find ways that they could be made to be more consistent with our training philosophy.  We are literally redesigning almost every tool we use to reinforce our training message from the ground up.  And we need to go that extra distance.  Because if we don't, our claim that we 'incorporate the principles of adult learning' would only be half true.

We are confident that the value in the latest thinking on adult learning is great enough that our clients and the many students we serve deserve our full and best effort to make sure that our commitment is as complete and superior to what other training companies are offering as is everything else we do here at CCT.
